Watch A 2019 Chevy Corvette ZR1 Hit Top Speed On The Runway

This brand new video features a 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 undergoing top-speed testing at the Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds in Florida.

General Motors got a bit lucky with the new C8 Corvette's release, despite obstacles like a UAW strike in Fall of 2019 and the burgeoning coronavirus pandemic of 2020. The result of social distancing and lockdowns has been that the internet is now chock-full of videos featuring the C8 Corvette being put through its paces, though one sad fact is that the pandemic appears to have delayed any higher-spec Corvettes slated for release. And that means that older C7 and even C6 'Vettes still take the cake, as proven by a new video featuring a 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 undergoing top-speed testing at the Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds in Florida. In the clip, this front-engined supercar manages to hit a speed that even Hennessey Performance couldn't best with a heavily modified mid-engined C8.

Get Behind The Wheel

The Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds offer a long, uninterrupted stretch of runway where the world's fastest cars have enough space to stretch their legs. In this clip, the C7 Corvette in question is equipped with the ZR1 trim package, which supposedly enables a 212-mile-per-hour top speed thanks to supercharged 6.2-liter V8 that routes 755 horsepower and 715 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Fueling Up For The Run

On a cool day at the track—the Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds always keeps things scientific—with temperatures at 10 AM sitting at 72 degrees Fahrenheit and at 2pm reaching 77 degrees, the 3,669-pound ZR1 drove through a 15-mile-per-hour crosswind over the course of a 2.7-mile all-out sprint and managed to hit 213.649 miles per hour, besting the factory estimates by a smidge. Keep in mind, though, that the C8 Corvette leaves the factory with a top speed rated at 194 miles per hour and Hennessey only managed to reach 205.
